Your opinion, on your terms.
Voting uses a random browser identifier stored in a cookie. We store a hash of that identifier with your choice, the debate identifier and the time of your response. No name or email is required to vote. Choices are saved on the server and aggregate totals are shown on each debate.
You can change your response while a round is open. This system limits responses per browser, not per verified person. Clearing cookies or using another browser can allow another response, so results are informal audience feedback, not representative polling.
The voting cookie lasts up to one year. Historical vote totals remain with archived stories. Sources open on their publishers’ websites, where their own access and privacy policies apply. This publication is publicly accessible. No sign-in is required to read a story or vote.
Some published photos and embeds load from external providers. Those providers receive connection information, such as your IP address and browser details, to display the content, and apply their own privacy policies.
